I can't imagine what that world was like... to know nothing but war for years at a time... I mean I've been deployed... not even front lines... for several months... and feel for the army who gets stuck there for a year... but to go through what they did for YEARS... is insane.

United States was in it for 4 years.

but not all WWII documentaries are about the US... yes probably most are... but even beyond that... the scope of war that large is insane.

lots of great history from that era, you don't have to watch if you aren't interested. I love learning the history of that era though.

I agree about the great history. Reading the history is helpful and books have a greater ability to give the big picture. Casualty reports and material losses do have an impact. Narrative history (like Ambrose) is great on the individual level. Written words do have limitations for me though. For showing the brutality and the emotional trauma the soldiers, sailors, and marines went through a movie, or better yet a miniseries, helps me understand a bit better.
