i have had the same shovel for probably 20 years.. it's plastic, wide and has a metal scraper affixed to the front.. works well.. mainly i snowblow though and just shovel the hard to get places and left over snow.. fuck shoveling..

I pay a service for the driveway. $230 for the entire season no matter how much snow we get. I have a 9HP craftsman that I use for the sidewalks. It'll throw snow across the street. When cars drive down the road they get hit with what seems to them like an avalanche.

Thanks for the info. I hope to never need a snow blower As for the shovel, I think I've found one I like. It's nice and wide - 30". IF (big IF) I ever need it again, I'll be clearing 4 ft wide sidewalks and a parking lot. So a regular scoop-type just won't work.



Oh and BTW, the best thing for mulch is a good wide pitchfork like this

I've tried a pitchfork and still prefer a shovel. I can move more per scoop with a shovel, it doesn't fall all over the place, and it doesn't get stuck on the tines like it does with the pitchfork.

That is essentially the push shovel I use. only problem with that style is if there are cracks or ruts it will catch them, but it does move lots of snow fast. also at the end of your "run" it is best to just push and leave the snow as trying to scoop and throw with that style is difficult.

The push type you like is fine until you get more than few inches. It's a real PITA to throw snow with that style.

Yup, that's what you want. Don't lift with it; just push the snow out of the way.
