Judging from the article alone, and the fact that they reference the Officer's repeated issue with the public, seems like a blatant abuse of his powers.

He should have tazed the old bag.

What the hell was she thinking? You can't just stand around on a public sidewalk, talking to your friends.

Crazy bitch.

True...but the cop has a record, and he is currently suspended for something and they wont tell what it is. I'd lay my bet its something along these same lines.

On the third appearance the charge was dismissed. If Carey hadn't shown up for any of the hearings the court most likely would have issued a bench warrant for her arrest for failure to appear.

If the prosecutor and/or cop don't show up for a hearing and, barring some kind of emergency, they haven't requested a continuance beforehand the case should be dismissed.
THAT is what has me thinking there's more to it.... what the hell....

There has to be more to it than an idiot, power tripping cop?

Sounds like the standard to me.

If this was WA, my first question would be, is it Lonestar?

Yes, I'd say there is a really strong possiblility that there is more to the story... Sure there are power tripping cops, abuses of power, etc... but the media rarely takes the time to gather all of the information before pulling the trigger... then if they figure out they are wrong, the correction is buried behind something more sensational.

Hey, if none of you remember, I had to go to court 3 times to fight the stupid ticket dave and I got last summer. It could have been 4 court appearances if i hadnt finally been offered a deal and tried to keep fighting it. Granted, its not nearly as serious a charge as she had, but it is still 3 court appearances, and all I had to do was miss one. The multiple court visit is the norm rather than the exception
