Not yet. We'll likely have an East Indian Prime Minister before we have a black one, I think. There are several East Indians who are pretty high up in the Liberal Party of Canada.

However we have had black Senators and Cabinet Ministers, and the current head of or government, Her Majesty's representative in Canada Governor General Michaelle Jean, is a black woman who was born in Haiti. She came to Canada in 1968 as a refugee.

Governments will use any excuse to take a paid day off. The city of Atlanta (mostly black employees) get "Confederate Memorial Day" off.
