Most of what was already mentioned...

Though, I do tip in the jar at Thundercloud Subs - they rule and are very "Keep Austin Weird" and worth every tip they are given.

I like to random tip - for those people that work their ass off and don't work a job that is typical of tipping. Getting my car detailed - if they pay attention and actually detail the vehicle rather than just clean it [there is a difference] they will receive a nice tip.

Barber, food server, taxi driver, bell hop, massage therapist (no happy ending required)and a few others in the service industry.

I won't put money in a tip jar like most of you. I also won't tip a homeless musician on the street. If they are that good go get a gig somewhere at a local tavern.

Okay add bartender to my list too. I forgot about that one.

I also throw money in musicians cases on the street. Not all of them, but some of them I'd see a few times a week in the subway and they were good. Really good. So I'd throw a quid their way.

Ah me too. I love music and while the street may not be a good place to buss for money, I enjoy it enough to tip them.

I forgot Massage Therapist, I tip them too.

Yep I've already seen a few more that I tip just from reading the responses here.

food servers, carwash attendants, cab drivers (unless they really eff up), limo drivers, barber, bartenders

there are probably more but that's what I could think off off the top of my head

Food servers
Baggage people
Delivery guys
hairstylists

As someone who never drinks hard liquor at bars, I don't tip bartenders. Yey, you can grab a bottle, congrats you aren't getting more money unless they serve me food, but thats because they serve me food.

I honestly don't know what protcol is for hotel concierges.

I learned about tipping housekeeping on CF. I had never heard of it or done it before.
I didn't see it coming either.

I only tip the concierge when they hook me up - like the guy in China with the tour of the Great Wall. I usually don't use them, but when I do I'll give them a tip (usually $20-30, not based on the amount I spend on the tour). Whether that's standard protocol, I have no idea.

I only tip housekeeping when they go out of their way, like in China, they'll fold and put away your clothes every day, leave bottles of water in the ice for you, etc. To me, that's worth a few bucks over the housekeeping that just makes my bed and gives me fresh towels.

I'm just pleased when there aren't pubes between the sheets or on the bathroom counter

BTW I always strip the bed to JUST the sheets.....run a blacklight sometimes on the bedspred

May get a tip depending on situation:

Tour Guides
Car washers / detailers

I won’t tip at the local sandwich shop, lunch place, etc. for some kid to do their job behind a counter. The tip jars bother me.

I’m sure there are others but theses are what I first thought of.
We seem to think exactly alike on this topic.
