Just don't get too caught up with lap times, sometimes that takes the fun out of a track day. I've had instances where I'll go out and "work it" in order to see if I can drop my times, just to come back and see 3 to 4 seconds +.

For me, I have to forget about laptimes and just ride. I love it when I'm out there just riding at what feels like 90% or so and I come back to see I dropped like 3-4 seconds...when things just flow and fall into place. Kinda like being in "the zone" I guess. I love those days.

Sometimes the best way to drop your times, is to NOT concentrate on dropping your lap times. Instead, concentrate on your lines, markers, braking, getting on the gas earlier, being smoother in general, etc...
that's what I was getting at.

Nashville was a big indication about how useless lap times really are from track day to track day. It was so hot and slippery compared to the last day I was there that lap times slowed considerably and changed throughout the day as it progressed to night and as heat exhaustion kicked in. I wouldn't get too worried about them. WERA race bikes I have seen have them under the tail and not even accessible to the rider.

How about just taping it ON the tail? (not a good idea if you care about your paint job LOL)

I'd want to see mine while I'm putting the laps down.

here's mine, it lets me play with it while I am waiting for green flags and if I get a really long straight and extremely curious I can look down, otherwise it's not anywhere near my field of vision and not something that distracts me.
