Me too! Plus you have to oil it anyway, you may as well pony up for the kit IMHO. BTW are you sure you're not looking at the "pre-filter",just asking...

I take it you have used this correct? I think the BMC race that I have is foam not cotton and I was thinking about using a product similar to simple green.

After 2 years it deserves a cleaning as it has some discoloration.
I have not. I don't have a BMC and am more with the logic below.

Agreed, buy the K&N kit at any auto parts store. Cleaner and oil...

Well Cotton it maybe... It has been a while since I bought it and I Only looked at it for a second last weekend. I have TONS of the K&N oil so no need for that and I just thought maybe be by some crazy chance someone here would have a little input on how they clean theres other than the K&N magic fluid which is not avalible at any store near me... Ok Off to the Suzuki Dealer on my lunch Hour Tomorrow at work for what maybe just dish soap.

dish soap and water and a bucket should do it is what i hear-but i havent had to clean mine yet, or any filter actually. i usually just replace the filter in my car, and i ran stacks/no filter on my other bike.

i cant give u advice that i dont know from experience to be true, thats not my style. thats why i didnt say this earlier.

I didn't know you already had the oil. I'd try Dawn or Simple Green then. I don't think any detergent will hurt it but I'd imagine you want to use something that is somewhat mild and rinses out easily.
