Yeah, we have some accidental species, here is a pretty decent site that shows one that is native and one non native.

FLIR makes some pretty cool stuff. In this one there appears to be another lighter image of a scorpion above the main one. Was it near something that was reflecting its heat signature?

My father is from Knoxville and I've spent quite a bit of time there on and off and the Gatlinburg area and really had no idea...guess I can post this in the "Today I learned" thread.

Crap...next time I'm in the woods around there I'll be looking around a little more now.

I'm not sure why he tries to explain anything to me. I'm not going to get it.

FLIR is awesome, we use it a ton in the electrical world. We take it outside sometimes to see how many deer we can find. Sometimes you see about a 100 of them damn things out there.

Dude, what if you saw a bunch of people out there doing satanic worship or something....scary.

It's getting close to Halloween so everything is scary.

Shit a high intensity spot light is all you need to see deer at night. Their eyes reflect the light nicely even if you are beyond the range of the spot light. I've literally seen dozens of pairs of eyes staring back at me in a pitch black field. Kind of creepy sometimes.
