Honestly, if I had asked the buyer to pay what shipping actually was, they might as well have bought new stands. I got them out of the garage and they went to someone here, so that's good I suppose.

Who did you use?

I have a set of headers I need to ship out but I'm looking at about the same situation.

UPS and USPS screw you with antying over a certain dimension.

Might want to see what DHL offers.

I thought DHL closed their doors in the US?

FedEx Kinko's. What really bit me in the ass was the fact that I didn't have a box that they fit into. So, I let them box them up. The guy made this makeshift deal out of two boxes that was all irregular, and marked it as fragile.

I called him on that, and he said it had to be marked fragile just because it was big and irregular.

Looking back, I probably would have just taped a bunch of bubble wrap around the stands and slapped a label on them. I bet that would be cheaper; just insure them in case they get bashed up.

Pad it, box it it, pad is some more, test for any movement, pad it some more, then for good measure pad it again. UPS puts their cargo through hell with the high areas the boxes fall from. Oh, and mark is as fragile.. something like that probably wouldn't like much weight placed on top of it.

Would UPS even let you ship something unboxed? I really doubt they want a loose bike stand damaging other boxes.

I'd tell him to hack off the lever so it'll fit in a decent size box and then re-weld it on.

This is what I did when I sold my pitbull stand to someone many years ago. Never heard any complaints from the buyer.
