Being 6'4 has helped. havent had a gun pulled on me yet but a lot of them will back down if the crazy white guy gets loud or goes right back at them.

My guess is the dude was acting on survival instincts. After spending 10 years in prison, I imagine he wasn't willing to let anyone get up to hit him back, especially since he thought they said they were going to cut him up.

They probably said "fuck you up" and his lawyer suggested he claim that he thought it was "cut you up".

Somehow I really doubt he thought they might have a weapon.
