Yes, but it was back when you couldn't easily purchase a blu-ray player. Now you can get them relatively cheap. Initial 360 units (mine) didn't have the HDMI, but most did.

Definitely, at the time it was released the PS3 was one of the most capable BluRay players available and a similar or lower price than other stand-alone players on the market. Instead of just being purely focused on gaming it was a high end "entertainment" machine. People were willing to pay a premium for that at the time. After 5 or 6 years I rarely play games on mine anymore but I still use it almost daily, and it is the only source I have ever used, for BluRay and Netflix.

I had a launch 360, bought it at best buy when I worked there and got the 2 year replacement plan for basically nothing on the employee discount. When the hdmi versions came out I put mine in the microwave without the hard drive and got a new one for free. LOL

never got why people bitched about $600 when the ps3 brought features and capacity the 360 couldnt touch and would have strayed into four figures to equal

A problem I have with the ps3 is how everyone talked about how powerful it was and its got 8 cores and blah blah but when you look at graphic comparisons of the consoles, the 360 usually always pulls ahead. Then you have the saying that developers dont want to spend the time using its hardware. Then why make something more powerful when developers are just going to port everything?

FYI, I own a ps3/360/PC

I had two. They were both stolen. Still miss some of those PS2 games.
