Planning a long trip?

A great book to buy and read is called Lonely Planet, details alot of places to visit, stay, and routes to avoid, visas, stuff like that.

I'm probably doing mine alone... as no one I know can get that time off... and I'm fine with it... be cool to control my own pace... though would be nice to have a bit of conversation on the road.

I plan on heading to Labrador next year or so... all depends on my time off.

2011 I have a trip planned out west... this one is for sure...


in reality... I'm ready to go now... my heart pulls me to the adventure... makes me wonder if anything else matters...

RR is in pieces in the garage, getting it's makeup done so it can go on craigslist. I am going to try and ship your package out this weekend or early next week. Just hadn't had time to get to the post office since the rally.

I kinda like the company, but not too much, I was thinking that i might want to meet up with friends or family at specific places and just spend time there, maybe spend a week in Paris, ride with my brother across the Sahara, ride through India with the dude that works at 7-11 (he would make a bad ass guide), even to just spend a week chilling with another RTW traveler on a beach in Taiwan would be bad ass.

Hell, you and I could meet up for drinks in Germany.

Here is a great link, the guy has been on the road almost constantly since 94 on his Harley having been on 6 continents and almost every country in the world, except the new ones that were created since he rolled through the old ones.

No fucking doubt. there's a new Long Way coming out this year... Long Way UP. from tip of south America to either Cali or Canada (this part has varied in several reports)

I'm so hooked on this I've thought about selling the bike too... but I wanna hold on to it so I have something to ride until I get the GS... and being that I'm selling my Xterra too... I need SOME sort of transport..

to be honest... I'll probably sell my RR to my baby bro... he's in love with it.

dont' worry about the package... I completely hear ya on being busy... I've worked 256 hrs in the last 16 days...

hell yes... prior to getting my current job I was good with just staying in the states till I retire... but now... I think I'm gonna push for Europe when my job here is done... I don't know how much "weight" I'll be pushing with... but coming from a special duty like the one I'm in... I can get the ear of my Career Field Manager pretty easy.

If I do... any and all are welcome... and I'll for sure have to keep an extra bike or two for visitors

Spend a week or two reading through his story and looking through his pictures. That bike has probably close to 500k km on it, and they have literally been everywhere. Sorta puts g-rex to shame a little bit huh?

Heck I'm dreading a planned 8 hour ride in the fall!

After the Rally...Eight hours Aint Shit...And Like ebbs said...after the first stop its pretty much put your mind to it and grind away at the miles...BUT, I also agree...doing things with no time constraints makes the trip easier...I was trying to make a deadline when I rode from the Gap to the Outer Banks...looking back I DEF should have made it a two day trip...and Just cruised along at a slower pace...instead of Blitzing down the highway at 90-100 MPH.

I have a new respect for my Bike now though...It taught me to buy a Sport Touring Bike for 17 hour Jaunts across the east coast

I've done long trips....I think it's just a mental thing for me.

I get too caught up in my own thoughts and don't pay enough attention. When I'm riding for pleasure it's a bit more focused than that. Straight highway riding is NOT for pleasure.

That's why you stay off the slabs. Find an interesting route.
