The fact that the Canadian citizens don't voice a protest over this , seems to be and interesting illustration of the difference in our two countries culture.
5 years would seem pointless because (Papa correct me if I am wrong ) there is no legal method of selling those rifles. SO in essence the Government has announced "we are stealing your rifle in 5 years!"

Oh, there has been one hell of an outcry from the firearms enthusiast population. Five years does mean exactly what you said, but it also means 5 years to lobby for a grandfather clause.

OK I succumbed to the AR pistol Bug
I went horse trading and came up with a
11.5 fluted H Bar barrel
9 inch Scratch and dent Samson Evo
DPMS LPK
Cerakoted the upper Lower and EVO in the grey the shop had a surplus of and added a 512 Eotech
Kind of a Cartoon like Range toy but But I have a Sig SB15 pistol brace on order
