Sure, if you mean keeping up with other bikes......or riding on the track........But you don't need to go past 9K to get ahead of traffic, unless you are street-racing against a pretty decent car.

True, I guess i've gotta realize that you live where there is a lot of traffic. Here, on the highway, I might pass a car every mile or so, less on back roads, so you can keep rpm's up pretty high all the time.

Right. Look at the dyno graph from any middleweight 600. The peak power and torque are way up high in the rev range. This is not an issue for debate, this is fact.

Peak HP and peak torque on the Buell XB12R is at 6750 RPM.

That's at the very TOP of the rev range.

Fact.

We realize this. But in day to day riding, is it necessary to rev it to that range just in order to get in front of traffic? Not in my experience.
