The prisoner is who cut the locks and sounded the alarm, etc. That is what I interpreted based on him having the axe (as the culprit featured in the beginning) as well as what he said. Had they cleared the prison completely, they would have encountered him already and none of this would have happenned.

If Carl actually killed his mom he is now an official hard ass.
1. Get shot, and survive? Check.
2. Tease walkers, and get Dale killed? Check.
3. Hollow out walker Shane's head? Check.
4. Go off on own in prison knocking off walkers? Check.
5. Put bullet in mommy? Apparent check, (but I suspect maybe not).

I think hes gone past full fledged sociopath now. His training is complete. Send him off to kill the governor

As soon as they came across a new black guy in the Prison, T-Dogg knew his days were numbered.

I can see the guy who plays him reading the script for the first episode. He gets to the end where they turn and see the inmates standing there...

"....Motherfucker. Better update my resume."

Nah, many of the walkers we saw in this last episode were in prison duds.
They didn't take adequate time to clear it all out.
All I can think is that they were just so damn tired they wanted to focus on a safe place for the baby to be born and not risk anyone else getting injured or killed until Herschel was back on his fee...err..foot.
