Okay, the Japs have gone a long way "recently" to distinguish the different displacement bikes BUT it's wasn't that long ago when you could literally take body parts off a GSXR 600 and put them on either a 750 or a 1000. For those who claim Yamaha is somehow "better" at this I give you the Thundercat and the Thunderace.... Oh and the CBR1000 and the new CBR600 are quite similar...

Oh I know, I just stopped there... I owned a '97 YZF1000R and I've owned a '01, '03, '06 GSXR1000. Personally, I've always felt that this is genius on the manufacturer's part and something that some American automakers should emulate.

The Kawi 6RR was never known for low-end (I used to have an 03). But not all 600's are the same. If you had rode my 05 R6, I bet you never would had a problem with its sub-9K performance, unless you weigh 200+ of course.

People who say that you really have to rev out a 600 to get anywhere are just being stupid, unless they are talking about track riding.
