The policy toward homosexuality in the military doesn't matter to me one way or the other, but changing the policy guarantees the religious right will be fired up and out in force for the midterm elections.

The data I have seen shows unemployment 8 years after Roosevelt took office at greater than 14%. Like you I suspect WW2, and the necessity of having well over 10% of the population employed in the military, did more to correct the problem than the New Deal ever did.
