It's kinda like having Halloween on other days of the year, around a crap ton of fellow nerds (some way more nerdy than even I'll admit to being).

If you're not a huge nerd/geek/dork, it's hard to explain the draw.

That being said, I haven't been to a convention since I was in high school, so...

The draw is simple: to get attention and compliments. Half of them probably don't even know anything about the characters they portray. Someone else picked it for them.

The other half are genuinely interested in the characters, and see it as a challenge to emulate them as well as they can, kind of like an actress plays a part.

Not at all. I've been to a few comic cons and the like. People do it because they love it and are passionate about the characters they portray.

Local national guard had a "Armycon" sign out front.....not sure what that's about. I'll try to nab a pic today

I really wanted to get out to the last Toronto ComicCon to try and get some shots of the Cosplayers and Steampunks, but I got tied up on something else
