From a logical species standpoint, wouldn't claiming ones alternative orientation to be set from birth be equal to admitting you are defective? Why wouldn't you claim it as a choice based on environmental factors? Is it simply because its easier to court sympathy than to defend the single act that makes us human? I wonder what gays (assuming genetic malfunction as the reason and not environment) would do if we started to remove this feature from the gene pool from genetic manipulation at birth.

There are a lot of people who are born "defective," I was born with a heart murmur which is by definition called a defect. Considering there are many gay adults who exhibited gay tendencies well before they were old enough have any interest in relationships, let alone make a choice between hetero and homo, my opinion is that gay people are born that way.
