Uh, seems to me that just as many people would be buying smartphones regardless of how the motorcycle business is doing.

It reads like the author wanted to advertise to the world that he rides "racing motorcycles on the street" and that "one of (his) motorcycles is capable of nearly 200 miles an hour". The rest of the article strikes me as dreck.

What an idiotic article.... If iStuff takes away more idiots that want motorcycles for image, more power to iStuff. Those people don't need to be riding.

Stereotypical Ducati owner. That article was all about the way the bike looks and said nothing about why people actually ride.

Not to mention that a Ducati costs $15K+, while an iPhone only costs $300-400. WTF kind of comparison is this?

I cant see an i whatever giving the same feeling of freedom and exhiliration as getting out and going for a ride, be it on the track, the backroads or the dirt.

It can't, but that doesn't matter. To quote the author again "They are buying function but, just as important, they are buying glamour. The device enhances the buyer’s sense of self". That reads to me like the author cares more about owning bikes (and everyone knowing it) than he does about riding.

The author, who is a 76 years old Ducati lover, is simply shaking a stick at those damn kids and their damn iPhones.
Any active Rider over the age of 70 gets 2 free "shake a stick those yungins" passes by me. I will allow this one to pass without further comment but I do have complaints about the article which you guys are already covering. |

You can remove Ducati now and damn near replace that with most sportbikes. Why the hell would someone want to get into motorcycling now when the price of a new bike is fucking retarded? A new 600 MSRP is nearing $12K. Sure, you can talk them down a little, but you're still paying $10K for a fucking 600. Are there exceptions? Of course. Can you get a deal used? Sure. But if someone was looking to get into motorcycling now, what's the incentive? It's not fuel economy anymore. Most of today's bikes get mileage that is about on par with a shit car. Insurance premiums are god awful expensive. Even bare bones bikes are coming in around $8K. This guy's picked a weird comparison point with electronics, but it doesn't change that getting into a new bike now means you're most likely getting stuck in a 60 month loan to pay for a toy that'll depreciate to half the loan value in about a month. I see these shitfuck dickhead college students around here who go to the local ripoff dealer and end up $15K+ into a new 600 and can't dump the loan after a year because they're fucking completely upside-down in it. The entrance point into motorcycling is killing off the interest fast enough. Good thing the economy still allows us to make frivolous spending choices on overpriced toys.
