I think that suspension of disbelief is fairly important in getting the most enjoyment out of entertainment too, but some things are just so glaring to a hard SF fan like me that I end up with a red welt on my head from all the forehead slapping.

About the only realistic thing was when they showed that the church's congregation went from two penitents and a homeless guy to SRO overnight. No comments about suicide rates spiking. No whack-job with a handgun wanting to go down in history as the first person to kill an alien. No 700 Club broadcast to say that they had come as the final judgement upon Man.

When you base a show on "the near now" you have an obligation to be at least somewhat realistic. It adds to the experience, not detracts from it.
