Adding Electrical Accesorries

I'm adding a few electronic accessories, but not wanting to mess with the bikes electrical system, I am making a seperate electrical system, with its own fuse box and relay.

The only connection to the bikes stock system will probably be near the key and that will be a wire to the relay on the new part of the electrical system. Although I am looking for a switched on connection that is bolted on with a nut, that way I can just bolt it on rather than either splice into it.

I think I'm going to go with this

I'm actually looking at having my GPS run out of the front, and the rear be used for charging my gadgets. I am also contemplating adding more electrical stuff in the future (reason for looking at the larger fuse boxes), like heated hand grips and a plug for a heated vest, possibly a 2nd outlet up front for a radar detector.

in total I'm looking at 4 outlets, plus the voltometer/clock, plus the heated hand grips. That should be more than enough. I had 2 outlets on my last bike and it worked good, but I didn't have the GPS or a radar detector on it either. The bike also came with all that stuff already on it, and I definately feel the pain when I'm riding because I don't have the ability to charge or run any gadgets.

Use the horn wire to switch your relay. It's only on with the key, and it's non-critical, and it has a separate fuse.

To make the hot-tap for any 'ignition-on' power source, you can utilize the piggyback style blade push-on connnectors (usually OK for the horn). Your diagram is slightly off - in that you'll want to just connect the ignition-on power just to the relay coil. You'll then have a "master accessory fuse" that feeds the common terminal on the relay, rated at the combined total amperage of the devices you're going to run. Your accessories will power off of the "NO" (normally open) terminal. Make sure that you have supply wiring from the battery to the relay, and from the relay to the fuse block of sufficient gauge to handle the amperage draw. Same with the return wiring. That's how I did my grip heaters.

Do you know the output of your stator and the requirements for your gear? You might need to be careful of overloading the bike's system.
