Marine sniper?
Bad ass, yes. All glory no pain, defiantly not. It has been said that sniper training school is THE most difficult school overall that you can go through in the armed forces. It is not only physical, but very very mental as well. Get dropped in 10 miles from target area with just you and your spotter, and your rifle. Low crawl the last mile to set up site. Sit completely still and silent, pissing yourself when you need to go, for hours or possibly days, waiting for your target to appear. All of this for one of two possible outcomes. 1. Target does not appear, mission aborted, sneak back out undetected to RP for exfil. No glory, no fame, just a pair of piss stained pants and a very hungry belly. OR 2. Target appears, shot taken and made, sneak back out undetected to RP for exfil. No glory, no fame, no one ever hears who made the shot, or even that the target was killed by a sniper. A pat on the back from your spotter is the only gratification you will receive. But the toys they get to play with are phenomenal! |

I know a guy who was a sniper in Iraq until an IED broke his back, he's my best friend's brother-in-law, I've known him since he was a kid. He felt a lot more than the recoil from his rifle while killing men and women through a scope and struggles with it everyday. Maybe that one Marine is a sociopath, but not all soldiers are.

My cousin was a Marine Scout Sniper from 90-98 I believe...
he now runs a school for the California Prisons to teach their snipers how to shoot. |

You guys really need to find a "Republicans" poster that doesn't include a self-professed socialist Canadian and a Libertarian

Lotsa guys kill in combat, all deal with it personally with their own mechanisms. There are some who really only feel recoil. Some of those may feel differently later on but I for one am glad that there are guys who can do it and deal with it.
