Default Non-copyrighted music for use in home video?

Man, Youtube and Facebook both busted my Jiu Jitsu highlight video that I spent hours making yesterday. I actually didn't know you couldn't use Copyrighted music (Disturbed in this case) in something that was not made to generate profit.

Can someone tell me how to find non-copyrighted music I could use? Or how to get away with using the music I already have synced up...?

Search for royalty free music on google... there are a lot of sites out there that offer the option. Posting on Vimeo is another option.

Trying Vimeo out now. I really don't want to have to remix this vid, lol.

If you have less than 45 seconds, you don't need permission... just FYI.

If youre lucky you can pick a song/publisher who will just put adds for the music in your video instead of DMCAing you.

Replace the music with a cover band?

Hmm, why then are there thousands of fan-made trailers with copyrighted music on Youtube? I can't count the number of those things that have the LOTR soundtrack on them, or the Matrix soundtrack, or something from Danzig, Pantera, etc.

Double standards.

Depends on the rights holder. Some dont actively search for copyrights violations or them might be smart enough to know that videos like that tend to increase sales. Some use an automated algorithm to find copyrighted songs. They scan YouTube videos for a particular audio pattern and take them down when its found.
