Default Sanitation Dept sabotages snow removal in NYC

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/s...#ixzz19bH9fJWe

Long story short: The sanitation department purposefully didn't plow some areas, and when they did, they didn't plow down to the street leaving a layer of snow behind. This was done because the city reduced the workforce and demoted supervisors in an effort to save money.

If this is truly the case, then there should be some people whose jobs will be filled by others, who actually want to work.

it will be much bigger than that if this is indeed true (the NY post isnt the most reliable of papers) considering several people died, including a newborn baby because EMS just couldnt get to the people there would be major backlash and I would bet criminal charges as well.

Given a union, I wouldn't even take dismissal for granted.

On top of that, they need proof that any of it was done on purpose, and not because they were stressed and rushing because of a shortage of manpower.

Well if there were statements made regarding a work-to-rule prior to the event, I should think that shifts the burden of proof somewhat.

there were some interviews done after they announced the layoffs where sanitation management said that the layoffs would mean big delays in plowing snow, mayors office said that there was a study done and the cost would be higher for any major storm, but savings in regular services would make up for a huge budget defecit

So are you saying that this is more likely a management order, than it is a labour action? If so, some managers had better have their asses on the pavement tout de suite.
