Default Flexible Carbon Fiber, Titanium Alloys, Memory Metals, Adjustable Focus in Glasses?!

It's unbelievable the technology going into something as stodgy and boring and miserable to wear as eyeglasses anymore. I destroyed my old frames and finally am coming around to buying a new pair because I've been sitting in front of a computer and studying so much lately. Horrible eye strain.

I started looking around online and spotted a few titanium frames. Then a carbon fiber frame. WTF? Went in to a storefront, and the titanium frame I picked up, I could barely feel it on my face. They were a semi-rimless job and I thought they'd fly off if I turned my head too fast.

Next was a flexible carbon fiber frame. I thought all CF was brittle?! No way. So I tried them on, liked it. I bent the temple into an S-shape and it bounced right back. Awesome. Nearly as light as the wire-thin Ti frames, but much more solid feeling.

Got an appointment next week at the optometrist, so we'll see what they say. But I'm definitely impressed with what I'm seeing from Oakley and Ray Ban - Not just Aviators!

So the finalists are:
Oakley Evade

and RayBan RX8404

Both look terrible, but the Ray Bans are slightly less terrible.

Hmm, I;m guessing you'd go with Aviators, or something with a gigantic plastic frame?

Nope... they look like frames for sunglasses... too wide... I'd want something more understated.

Too bad rimless only works for those with light prescriptions. Otherwise they look like coke bottle glass.

That's what insurance is for. The RayBans aren't as much as that, but I imagine some of it could still be out of pocket. Haven't tried this insurance yet. Totally worth it if they're comfortable, look good, and can take a beating. It would almost be worth it to buy them myself then.

well i we don't have eye ins. for 2 reason, 1 both my sisters are eye dr's, so we get those exams for free. 2, also alot of times insurance won't cover you for the high $ frames as far as i know, if you get the $99 Lens crafter frames lenses it'll cover you, but when you start going into the high end frames, nope. also alot of the $ goes to the extras , scratch resistant and uv and transition coatings aren't covered, sometimes.

obviosuly plans differ.

Not always, our ins has always covered Polo Ralph Lauren, Rayban, Oakley, Converse, and all the major brands.

I don't like how everything is becoming rectangular lenses. I prefer oval lenses.
