Greatest stand-up comedian of all time IMHO... There's those comedians who's standup is pretty good, maybe close to great, but end up being fantastic in particular roles - movies, TV, etc. Then there's the guys who were just amazing story tellers, but who fail to keep their stuff relevant... Carlin was the best because he was not only an pheonominal story teller, but also continuously kept his stuff relevant and REALLY had a knack for making you think... without knowing you were thinking.
That said... some of his stuff is taken too seriously IMO... it's more satire than many would admit... brilliant none the less. |

George Carlin is one of my all-time favorites; Bill Hicks is another. Both comedians had the ability to make me laugh and think, while being entertaining and engaged with the crowd at the same time, which is a rare thing. I was lucky enough to see Bill Hicks at a small venue in West Palm not long before he died. Good stuff.
