Summer Jobs
Yeah, there's a foot of snow out there, so it's a great time to look for a summer job. The Department of Interior has a bunch of jobs available in the west. Most are in BLM areas or National Parks. I'm talking a lot of wilderness. Many jobs include Park Ranger, Firefighter, Range Tech, Recreation Tech, Forestry Tech Maintenance Worker, etc.
Most are temporary, 1,000 hours or so, and the pay is $10-20 per hour, but they could lead to a permanent job, a better location, or some nice savings for you. Many jobs are in Colorado, California, and Montana, and don't require Bachelor's degrees: http://jobsearch.usajobs.gov/Channel...Jobs&pg=1&re=3 My first jobs out of college were temp jobs with the Interior Dept. working in northern California and just east of Yellowstone. I only got $5/hr, but they were so much fun, I would have paid $5/hr to do them. |

yeah... this deployment is giving me entirely too much time to think about my employment options.
I don't really want to move, but I would like to try something different. |

The great thing about a temporary job is that it's temporary. Not like you would have to move there. Since most jobs are in the wilderness or National Parks, you couldn't move there anyway. The govt. puts you up in cabins or motels, you get to drive their 4x4's and fly in their helicopters. There's little to spend your money on so you save a bunch, and you get to stay and try out something different in places that others only get to visit. Yeah, there's low humidity, fresh air, twisty roads, and no Starbucks, but if I was just forty years younger I'd already be out there.
