Ya, I held a standard P220. I have a berette 9mm, which I bought because ammo was cheap, but I wanted a .45ACP for a while now. The real fun comes later, with the tactical mods. Next up is a DE .50. Why? Because I can. |

The 450 Bushy (good solid round) has not made much of a dent in the market. Introduced after the Beo and the Socom had established themselves .Commercial Ammo can be challenge (like the Beowulf) and the gun itself is produced by only 1 manufacturer. The 50 Beowulf, Developed by Alexander Arms, the .50 part of the description grabs everyone's attention and draws in guys like me. When introduced it had the advantage of being a customer ready product. Walk into your LGS put your money down and leave with an Upper and Ammo. The round itself is 12.7x42mm using a rebated rim that uses a mildly modified 7.62x39 bolt. As it currently stands Only Alexander Arms makes the .50 Beowulf. However a few other company's will sell you Barrels , and bolts in the 12.7x42mm caliber (wink wink) Load options, were initially pretty limited but because of the advent of the .500 S&W if you are a home loader you now have lots and lots of options. The .458 Socom kind of lost out to the glamour of the .50. At its introduction this round one a tough one to get into and if you wanted one you went through custom shops like Tromix to get one or build it your self .But from the outset load options for the 458 were more plentiful. and while I don't own one I believe there a a few companies offering ammo This cartridge is gaining popularity as evidenced by Rock Rivers production of a affordable production carbine and Upper in this caliber. Keep in mind than none of these rounds are long range cartridges. They all approximate, the old 45/70 round. is they are thumpers that work well inside of 200 to 250 yards. Personally if I were entering this market today I woud be looking hard at the RR 458 |

Screw that, if/when I build a .50 cal rifle it will be a long range sniper rifle. Something to make my .338 look like a baby rifle. |

For the price of a nice DE, you could get yourself a proper zombie gun, like a .357 Python.

If you've shot both how did .454 compare to a .44 mag? |

probably something to do with old wounds. |

I will be getting a wheel gun though, and it probably will be a .357. But I wanted a DE since I was a child. It's one of those novelty guns that you rarely shoot, but pray somebody breaks into your house so you can see what it really does. |

I already have a varmint style RRA. If I were to venture into this particular avenue, it would be to build a heavy duty brush gun for putting serious *whump* on angry hogs. Though, to be honest, I could just buy a Marlin 'Guide Gun' and do the same thing (albeit, not semi-auto or detachable mag) for less money. |
Picked up a Taurus PT92 this morning.

ONSSP surprised me yesterday with a Mossberg 500! Been wanting a shotgun for a while and she got a pretty good black Friday deal... Stoked!

Last time a girl surprised me with a shotgun, I had to put her TV down and back slowly out of the house. No No... I don't look the part. How about: Last time a girl surprised me with a shotgun, it was so awkward. I totally choked on the hit and my water bottle was already empty. I was known as Chokey Smurf from then on. Nah... that doesn't work either. How about: Damn... fuckin' envious. I need a girl who surprises me with gifted firearms. redflip |
Well I am a sucker. I been wanting a decent range rifle for awhile, but could never really decide on what I wanted. With the climate looking bad, I think I am going to be a sucker and just get one.
I really like the look of the M14, but not sure I want to go that route with springfield m1a. |
Get its daddy.

M1a is returning to her case in favor of a nagant 91/30...just as soon as the state gets off their lazy asses for a nics check.
Id love a tok, but they're $$$ around here. Plan to convert the mn to a pu sniper clone so i can toss on my leshy suit and call myself "the end" |

There's a rumor going around that the Republicans are going to agree to another magazine ban (back to "AWB" 10 round limits) in exchange for keeping the Bush tax cuts for people making 750,000-1,000,000 a year.

Here is my small collection of bullpups with an AR fro comparison. I have alway liked the Bullpup concept but being a southpaw has left me at a disadvantage for most of them. Oddly enogh the best trigger in the group is the G22 http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps0d4771b6.jpg |

got recommened these mags
just a heads up for some of you... Found some very high quality Israeli military steel magazines via slickdeals. They are high quality and made for the Israeli military. 19 bucks a piece, use coupon codes: "ARFCOM" first then hit apply for 5% off, then use "FREE-GRND" and hit apply and it will stack the coupons. take the price down to 17.77 per mag shipped. You must spend over 99 dollars to get both coupons to work. http://www.themakogroup.com/product_p/earm30%20w.htm http://www.themakogroup.com/v/vspfil...RM30%20W-2.jpg |
Damn, no M1A/M14 mags...
|
Ok I am just showing off a bit I guess but just got back from a machinist friends home shop. Drill the pin and removed the original muzzle device. Re-threaded a AR15 Muzzle device and here She is. Now wearing a Millet DMS (certainly not a NIghtforce but a good optic for this) and My GemTech Halo. This package handles so much better than any of My ARs with a Can on!

I know a lot of ranges won't allow lead shot, for environmental reasons, but I've never heard of one restricting the size of the shot.
Odd. JC |
Any of you guys have experience with add-on recoil pads?
50 rounds yesterday and I'm a little tender today... not a big deal at all, but for $30 or so, I figure why not. Especially when I'm already shopping for a sling and new bead sight. Seems that the custom fit ones are all pretty comparable, but the slip-on ones are cheaper. Can't really find much on fitment with the slip-on ones... and other than aesthetics, don't seem to be much difference between custom fit and slip-on. |
My Tromix saiga has an extra limbsaver on it. I don't think it makes a difference.
|
I got 4 M1A 20 rd springfield mags for $35 each today at a local dealer. The springfield version runs for $45 MSRP and the CMI ones run for $27 MSRP, seen them as low as $22. So I didn't make out too bad.
FINALLY GOT 308 ammo, I can actually shoot the damn gun finally. |

Like so: http://cdn2.bigcommerce.com/server29....1280.1280.jpg It does feel a little cramped, but I figured that with my limited rifle/shotgun experience it was just unfamiliarity. Maybe I'll get one of the slip on pads and see how it goes... should add a little length and some shock absorbtion. |
My local indoor range has the same restriction on bird-shot. I hadn't thought about it till now but, I wonder if there's a greater (real or perceived) danger of ricochet off the target hangers with the smaller shot?
On a side-note, I !finally! got to shoot my new Taurus PT845! It shoots nicely! Unfortunately, the sights are off and the damn set-screw has loctite on it and I can't get it loose! I'm probably going to take it to my local gunsmith since he should have a bit higher-quality allen wrenches and possibly a jeweler's torch to soften it a bit. All my torches are too big! |
