I think I made up my mind. Gonna order me a S&W 5906.
|
I'm still kicking around the idea of a bolt gun when I get home.....
Still haven't figured out what I want though. I keep looking at 300winmag for the cartridge.... just not sure. bah. |
I think for Xmas, if I can let the moths fly out of the wallet, I'm going to get a trap shotgun.
I've had my eye on the Browning BT-99 gr 3, but I just can't get over spending that much on a single barrel shotgun. |

Neighbor Bought a SCAR308 , we took it out last week
Pretty cool weapon, accurate and fairly light. Trigger was notice outta the box Take down was very easy I still prefer my DD AR esp. Since the scar was nearly 3x as much |

SCAR is a much nicer platform than the AR family, however the price lack of ultra-massive-mega aftermarket make the ARs a much better option. |
This guy shows some recoil differences between the SCAR and AR. Both 5.56.

Neighbor bought th 308 version and w that kinda recoil you're not rapid fire accurately.

Semi-bad day at the range. FYI. All firearms were dirty and the PT640 pro is still breaking in.
2/3 through a box of .45 and my 1911's pin starts to stick. I just crammed it back down and oiled it real good. No problems after. The PT640 Pro was not liking the Herter's ammo at all. It would fire 2-4 shots then jam. It shot the Tulammo with NO problems at all and these Herter's are stamped Tulammo on the bottom. Looking at the round, I'm wondering if the bullets are sticking out too much. If someone doesnt mind putting a caliper to their .40 ammo and posting the length so I can compare. I never did take apart the mags and clean them. Just wiped them down. I also still havent left them full for a few days to let the springs settle. So....... The 5906 was dirty from the get go (damn police dont clean before selling), but it shot the Monarch steel rounds with no problems at all. It's funny how it seems like all steel pistols will shoot anything but a polymer pistol gets all pissy at times. From what I can tell the dirty 5906 is a straight shooter. Now I just need to find a replacement left safety knob since mine is missing it. |
Here's the first outing with my Taurus PT 640 Pro. It's Brazilian so you know it's smooth down stairs.

If you can find a brand new S&W 5906 for $275 that I paid for this one then let me know. I don't mind used. I did have to get over the fact that I didnt get to see it/feel it before buying but that's how it goes.
Eh...I live dangerously. I hit the handicap button and I'm not even handicap. I did clean it and I guess they just clean the upper half and let the bottom half collect the filth. LOL I didnt feel like wasting all my gun blast so I got under the sink with a brush and went to town on everything. Even though it was gunked up good, NOTHING made it seem like it was dirty. Nothing stuck, the trigger was crisp smooth, no stuck firing pin, or gritty upper action. I do how ever have to replace two tiny tiny springs that give tension to these three finger things. Both were snapped but the pieces were stacked so I didn't know until I used a pick to get them out. Sadly I dropped one and forgot I left the other one on the gun mat and moved it around. O well. The good thing is the springs are super thin and not even strong enough to operate a ball point pen so they should be easy to replace with something from the hardware store or cutting down a pen's spring. Before anyone says, "OMG that's dangerous" I'm telling you these things are so weak, an eye glance bent one of them. |
No. 13 are the two springs I need.
http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=0...detail/5906-R1 Looks like I found a new barrel. Nice. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/992...43-5946-super9 |

dunno how true this story is..........
Gun lovers public service announcement: While I was in a Texas gun store today, my car was tagged on the wheel in the parking lot. The gangs do this on wheels or bumpers at gun stores, shooting ranges, gun shows etc. Later when you are parked at a restaurant, hotel, or other location that’s less well guarded or under video surveillance, other gang members spot the marker and break into the car for a quick gun grab. This is so RAMPANT in San Antonio where we were for a National shoot this summer, the Sheriff of Bexar County came out to brief the 400 participants of our competition. Too bad three teams had already been victimized the first day. This is the first I’ve heard of this in Texas . Please pass this info along to your 2nd amendment list. Daily check you car, truck or motor home for unusual painted dots, marks, check marks or other strange looking symbols that are not normal to your type vehicle. It could prevent you from being a victim of robbery, or even save your life if you catch the thief in the act. This next comment from a Gun Site instructor: I don’t know how widespread this is becoming, but the info regarding the NSCA Nationals in San Antonio is correct, as all of us who compete in sporting clays know. Competitors there were having their vehicles marked with a small adhesive dot on the rear license plate or rear bumper, then followed for miles and having their vehicles quickly and efficiently broken in to when parked for lunch etc. Some crews were working the parking lot at the Nationals itself. 27 high end shotguns were taken there recently. They know when 1400 shooters with high $$ competition guns are in town. BTW I shot with a young man who was trying out a new gun at the Nationals. He and his father lost all their guns and equipment while making a quick stop for lunch at a BBQ place in Corpus Christi the month before. |
God this story wont die. They posted a pic of a tires with a manufacture dot.
|
yup, i pointed that out to the guy who sent me the email
but just cuz the pic is wrong, doesn't mean it's not happening. i dunno. |

so the family and i went out to a local shooting range, where they were having a wounded warrior thing this past weekend and bought a few squares for diff guns.
a DPMS 308 kimber 45 i missed out on the LWRC AR i won the kimber!!!! http://www.dayattherange.com/wp-cont...Pwmagazine.jpg |
You dick. I'd love to have an AR 308. I know your people don't have souls but you could give it to a wounded warrior. I'm just saying. I don't want you to feel bad or anything but for someone that got screwed up over seas and is now back and still wounded could enjoy this. Again I don't want you to feel bad or anything just saying. You know. Someone with a soul could use it.
I got the safety lever in from S&W that the guy on the phone said he'd send to me for free. Now I'm all ambidextrous and shit. |
Lol, that's so wrong!!!
Btw, my Kimber cdp pro II was ambi from the factory redflip |

The .22 cans from what I've been researching just have a hard time getting cleaned -- some refer to a dip solution (half H202 half whit vin) and you end up with this hazardous lead acitate or some shit that you gotta take to have properly disposed of..... 22's are dirty, but cheap fun.... mmmm good dirty cheap fun.... |

On the steel cans , while not recommended good old fashion brake cleaner can be used. One of the easiest ways to keep a can from carbon-ing up is a spoonful good old KY jelly put into the can before shooting (shake the can vigorously) it coats the baffles and as an added advantage of further reducing sound levels at the muzzle because it breaks up wave patterns. At the end of the session rinse the can with water (KY is water soluble ) debris comes out with the water and either spray down with wd 40 or toss the can in the oven a 215 degrees for 15 minutes. |
my pops just bought a glock 20 10mm last night, should have it in a few weeks. anyone else have one or shot one? any praise or complaints about it? i tried talking him out of it because of the lack of ammo supplies locally but he still did it.

Yeah that's what I was looking for, a good SS can that i can take apart and clean. Saw that a guy was using mercury power tune (carb cleaner pretty much, breaks up carbon) that he and his shop get in a gallon or so container... but he uses that in a ultrasonic tub to break up the buildup that he gets in the baffles. I'm still new and learning more and more about the cans, so thank you for the info re: coating before firing, i was looking to find ways to help make the stainless steel baffles a bit easier to clean. |

LWRC...someone paid a lot of money for that little kaboom. What was that, do you think? A round went off out of battery? |
i think it was shot.
left side entry, right side exit and i think the full auto (see the selector), and the lower is no longer usable, so basically a total write-off |
Quote:
Unless the damage is internal, it doesn't look like anything is particularly wrong with the lower receiver. On second thought, it looks like it might be bulging a little on the right side, or maybe that's just the upper as well. Hard to tell from the angle. Either way, I stand by my initial assertion... that's an expensive oops. |

My latest Home Roll
I recently Purchased a package that included a 7.62 YHM Phantom QD suppressor. (it has to stay at the Dealer until Uncle Sam process my Form 4 and it can come home. )
About the same time I began to read a bit about the 300 AAC Blackout round, thought why not so I acquired the following components CMMG 16 inch Barrel w/Carbine length gas system. (gun show grab) YHM M4 upper (new) YHM Gas Block/filp sight (re-purposed) YHM BCM + Bolt (new and properly staked) YHM 7.62 QD Pantom Suppressor Oly Multi Cal Lower (new) DPMS LPK (new) Military Buffer tube Buffer (used 3 throughout the testing settled on a standard buffer with 1 weight removed) Milspec carbine length buffer spring My primary purpose for this is a "Hush Puppy" something that will stop mid sized game Pigs, Coyotes Nuisance Deer Quietly. Using 220 Grain Remington Subsonic Ammo (rated at 1050) it required a little tuning to get the gas system right but dam it was worth it! (fortunately my dealer has a range behind his place) This thing is as quiet as my 22 with a can on it with the added advantage of a 220 grain 30 cal projectile. Just a visual bore siting of the Nikon 2x7 prostaff on the bench and it was on steel at 150 yards. This thing is a HOOT to shoot the action cycling is louder than the muzzle on a dry can. Here it is with the can on at the dealer http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...o/DSCN1456.jpg Ad at home http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...to/300Blck.jpg |
Damn! Looks hot!!!!
I'll be posting pics int he next day or two of my recent acquisition. |

Anyone own or have fired one of the Hi-Point carbines? Saw them at a local pawn shop and the 45 is priced at $290. Looks fun.

anyone have one of these?
http://www.colt22rimfire.com/index.php?page=colt-m4-ops i think i might like it a little more than the smith and wesson 15-22 looking for some feedback |
Quote:
Pros of the Smith and Colt Open the box clean it and shoot If you do not have a AR lower or picture yourself getting a AR you don't need to get one Cons To a large degree what you see is what you get, Aftermarket options are limited when compared to the Dedicated upper. If at a later date you want to add a different caliber you would be forced to buy another lower. |
